Use your phone as a webcam in browser video calls
Extroid lets a connected device camera appear as Extroid Camera in supported browser-based video calls. Connect by QR code, test the camera, then select it in your web meeting.
Extroid is built for browser-based calls. It does not create a system-wide webcam for native desktop apps such as OBS or Zoom Desktop.

How Extroid turns a phone into a browser camera
The setup is designed for a browser flow: install the extension, pair your device, allow camera access, and choose Extroid Camera inside the video-call website.
Add Extroid to your browser
Install Extroid in a supported Chrome or Chromium-based browser.
Connect your phone by QR code
Open Extroid, scan the QR code with your phone, and connect the device camera.
Allow camera access on the device
The connected device needs camera permission so Extroid can use its camera.
Test Extroid Camera
Open Camera Check and confirm that Extroid Camera appears and shows a video preview.
Select Extroid Camera in your browser call
Open the video settings in your browser call and select Extroid Camera.
What you need
Extroid is intentionally limited to browser-based video calls. These requirements help avoid wrong expectations.
A supported browser
Use Chrome or another compatible Chromium-based browser where the Extroid extension can run.
A device with a camera
Use a phone or another device that can open the Extroid camera page and grant camera permission.
A browser-based call
Use a video-call website such as Google Meet or Zoom Web, not a native desktop app.
Where Extroid works
Extroid works when the video call runs in a compatible browser environment that can see Extroid Camera.
Where it works
Browser-based Google Meet
Select Extroid Camera in Meet video settings.
Zoom Web and similar browser calls
Use the web version and choose Extroid Camera when it appears.
Camera test pages
Use Camera Check to verify the camera before joining a call.
Where it does not work
Native desktop apps
Extroid is not for OBS, Zoom Desktop, Teams Desktop, or other native apps.
System-wide webcam selection
Extroid does not install an operating-system camera device.
Unsupported in-app browsers
Some QR scanner webviews cannot request camera permission correctly.
Test the camera before joining your call
After pairing your device with Extroid, open Camera Check and select Extroid Camera. This confirms the browser can see the camera before you join Google Meet, Zoom Web, or another browser call.
Open Camera CheckExample: use your phone camera in Google Meet
Google Meet is a good example of the Extroid flow because the camera is selected inside browser video settings.
Why use a phone as a webcam for browser calls?
A phone camera can be useful when the built-in webcam is low quality, poorly positioned, unavailable, or blocked by another app.
Better camera position
Put the connected device where it frames you better than a laptop webcam.
Simple browser pairing
Connect by QR code and keep the flow inside the browser without a native phone app.
Test before meetings
Use Camera Check to verify Extroid Camera before the actual call starts.
